I assume it's from someone pressing the "did you find this post helpful?" button on another users post.
Am I correct in so assuming?
How many time must someone press this button before you get your first green rep-rectangle?
Yes it is both from the helpful check or also if someone gives reputation using the scales icon visible in the left section of a post as part of the user's name and details.
You seem to have your reputation disabled. Which you can change by editing your user profile.
Here's the site wiki about the subject: reputation
Please note that while, that wiki discusses negative and neutral reputation, I've never seen that in use in the LQ forum.
You can see if people have given you reputation on the MyLQ page.
I've asked that this thread be moved to the LQ Suggestions & Feedback forum where it should be located. If you browse that forum, there are some older discussions about the topic of reputation.
Moved: This thread is more suitable in <LQ Suggestions & Feedback> and has been moved accordingly to help your thread/question get the exposure it deserves.
Please note that while, that wiki discusses negative and neutral reputation, I've never seen that in use in the LQ forum.
Negative reputation was disabled a while ago. There used to be a "no" option to the "Did you find this post helpful?" question, but that seemed to hurt people's feelings.
Distribution: Currently: OpenMandriva. Previously: openSUSE, PCLinuxOS, CentOS, among others over the years.

Arct1c_f0x,
Just FWIW, and as far as I understand, the Did you find this post helpful?Yes at the bottom of every post (except the OP) isn't actually a part of the reputation system itself, it just adds to it. In any case, it always only adds 1 point worth of reputation, whereas giving some reputation through the scales icon in the posters sidebar is actually a part of the reputation system. And depending on how long the "reputation giver" has been a member, and how much reputation they have themselves, it could give them 10 points worth of reputation. So for example, if I gave you reputation through the scales icon, it would be worth 10 points.
Just thought I'd mention that since the link rtmistler gave doesn't seem to say anything about the above.
