it should not simply change the username, but it should re-attach all threads / all posts to a special username "Ghost" and then really delete the account.
So again, why would it be important to someone(s) that other LQ members can no longer identify posts made by that member?

I do not understand the link between "minimising footprint" and removing posts made on a computer users' forum. Even the American and Chinese governments would not use posts regarding installation and configuration of computer operating systems as evidence of sedition or "terrorism".

True, but a little overboard for a board like this. If someone wanted to track me down there would be easier ways of doing it than trying to connect me with anonymous posts made on a forum.
