How about a sticky for how to mark solved ....in each forum?
Hi
I don't want to pick on newbies so lets consider all forums
How about a sticky titled
"How to mark your question as solved"
and include the instruction.
Quote:
you are now able to mark a thread as [Solved] by clicking "Mark this thread as solved" under "Thread Tools". The thread will remain open, but this will let other members who are having a similar issue know your thread contains a solution
I notice there is a good sticky in Newbie which has 2 links with fine examples of FAQ type scenarios.
but the solved issue relates to everyone, I hope.

New members actually get an email explaining the solved system and how to mark a thread as solved, if they do not mark either of their first two threads as solved after they receive a couple posts. We also make note of the solved functionality in the Community Bulletin from time to time. I'm open to further suggestions on how we can increase usage of the system, but I'm not sure a sticky in every forum is the correct solution. Thanks for the feedback.
jeremy has dismissed the idea which he is entitled to do.
b) Another user has asked a question, to now mark this post has solved is kinky.
To all
I don't have a problem with a mod marking this post has solved but as a human I disagree with the opinion of jememy on this issue.
but somehow I think no mod will now mark my post has solved as that should mean, they as mods will now have to do the same to other posts.
Yes I have just woken up and taken my grumpy pill.
I will add, there may be reason why I raised this issue. Because we can engage in robust debate, I will reveal it.
jeremy says new members get an email. I was not aware of that fact. But, I recently felt the need to prompt a low count poster to mark their post as solved. That OP did explain they got distracted. I have no problem with that, we are human.
But if I am to accept that explanation, and now know that jememy sends reminders to new members......what is wrong with an extra reminder as a sticky?
Now you may counter that I have taken on the "role" of mods by asking a member to mark their post as solved.
If you have a problem with that let me explain, that I was one of the repliers.
Let me know if that is a problem for you, as I can easily modify my behaviour.
I hate to sound cynical, but, well, I'm old. That breeds a certain level of cynicism (or maybe fatalism would be a better term).
If a member misses the cues to mark a solved thread as "solved" (as I may have myself over the years for all I can remember), I doubt that posting an additional general notice to be overlooked would help much. One can only do so much.
I have from time to time seen mods and users put gentle reminders in threads to mark them as solved; I think those are more likely to have a positive teaching effect than another general notice.
