I hate seeing images embedded in posts on forums. Especially when the image is twice the size of my screen. Plus it makes the site ugly IMO as this site is a nice clean site, professional looking. I personally would like to keep it that way.

If you so much want to know what people look like, start a thread in the General section asking for people to link to a image of themselves.

Frankly, the little tux avatars we are forced to bear are getting a bit tiresome... At least custom avatars should be enabled.
who cares? I care! This site is NOT just some run of the mill computer site. this is probably THE fastest growing and most popular Linux Forum site on the net. it is NOT cliquey and elitist, and is set out to be a widely accessible place for reliable information. avatars cheapen everything in site, and stupid pictures are jsut annoying. These things are available on a lot of the smaller, less popular, less GOOD forum sites. if you want cheap tat, try them.

custom avatars or images in posts is not something you are going to see on this site. I would possibly consider a small picture on the members profile page or a seperate photo gallery, but there are many things that I would like to do first so this is not going to happen in the near future. Thanks for the suggestion.

Yeah, this is an excellent example of a nice photogallery. Something like that would be nice here, too. No need to put any images uder the user name or in the sig.

I think so too, but the majority seems to be opposed (forgot to include a poll, doh!), so I don't see this happening unfortunately. In my opinion, a photogallery and a chat would really bring a sense of "family" to this community. But... oh well!

Were already a big happy community family. Can't you see from the General forum, we get along fine without knowing what one another look like... or with any photogallery.

It might be implemented one day, but we have other priorities that are a bigger priority than a photogallery.

too much "family" creates a clique. that's obviosuly a bad thing, and a reason why so many other forums suck.

True. This forum is one of the few places where you never see arguments involving - hey i got 3 zillion posts i am the linuxking and if you don't like it all my buddies will slam you too.
Plus Jeremy probably got better things to do than check on 30.000 membersphotos to make sure that there is no - shall we say - unacceptable portraial of the human body involved.

Just to add a statement...

A photo gallery at this point is not realistic. Jeremy has many things planned for this site, and he needs more powerful equipment. I am sure he is not going to bog down system resources to add photos.

Besides, photos, even small ones, take longer to load up to a users PC, and bog down the systems available bandwidth. The majority of people are still on dial up... why would they want to waste time for something so insignificant.

In honesty, there are only a select few "regulars", such as myself and acid_kewpster, tricky, and fine. I know there are others, but my point is that the number of regulars vs. number of total registered users on this site is small. Many people stop by, ask a question or two, and then go on their way.

I think acid said it best.... if you want to show everyone your pict, then post a link to it in the general section. To many images start cheapening the site, making it look unprofessional. We dont want that. This is a great site for anyone, so lets keep it clean.
