i suggest a sub-forum under 'software'

This should be handled nicely by the new Software -> Desktop category

There are very few X specific questions asked and so having a seperate forum for it would not really be of any help - in fact, it would add to the confusion as the mods would spend a lot of time moving posts from there to the correct place.

that makes sense - i think it belongs in 'desktop' i just missed it.
