I wish these Senior member/Guru titles were based on Reputation points, that would have made at least some sense.
Hi Anisha,

Even if the titles would be based on Reputation points, it wouldn't reflect a users knowledge since the reputation system allows to add reputation for any reason whatsoever. Someone might give reputation for pointing to a link which doesn't show knowledge other then being able to Google for example. If everyone would use the reputation system as it was meant to be used (adding reputation for technical good posts and/or explanations) then it would reflect more of the posters technical profile. But assuming that everyone would use this tool as it is intended to be used is one step to far. Never assume that everyone will comply.

Kind regards,

Eric

Hi Anisha,

Just to give you an example of my statement above: I've got two recent post that the same user found helpful just a little while ago while they were only posts to tell him not to double post. See what I mean? This doesn't prove anything about my knowledge or lack thereof, it's just a 'wrong' way of using the reputation system.

Kind regards,

Eric

I agree but I do believe the posters are more careful and sensitive in presentation of their information. In other words I see a link with an explanation and do not see as much "Did you use Google dumb a**." I do not think the reputation system should be used for anything other than what it is now. I think it is doing the job as intended but anything else would make it degrade.

By the way as you can see I do not worry about the good marks as long as I do not get any bad ones.

I feel the same way about it too. In all honesty, I think it is nearly perfect the way it is right now. To add something though... I think LQ should have a new option/thing/whatever in your profile to where you mark the approximate date you started using linux, and between posts, rep, and how long you are using linux would determine a better score. It could also be something else though other than how long you have been using linux. I'm trying my best to explain it, but like always, I suck at explaining things.

I am against any type of grade level or knowledge level. This is a volunteer forum and any of these would discourage posters. Besides someone who used linux for one year may have more qualification solving problems than I do. And as with any lesson a different view sometimes will give the op the solution he/she is looking for or can understand.

Plus we are getting away from ops topic, are you trying to drive up your post count?

Very true. As far as what I was trying to say though, I said it because of the fact that you can give reputation for such things as saying sorry to a person for posting something off topic. It was only my two cents on how to maybe create a true level of whatever it could be on LQ. I'm not saying that it would tell exactly how smart you are with linux or anything.... Sorry to make it seem like something else.
