"Goodbye, LQ ... your ads have, at last, become un-blockable"

For many years(!) now, I have managed to enjoy LQ in an experience that has ... thanks to appropriate "ad blockers," been largely manageable. However, apparently-recent developments over the past several days have finally managed to intrude upon this experience to the point that I must bid you, "adieu."

I don't come to web-sites to have my time, my space, or my Internet bandwidth wasted with pointless "advertisements." I've never tolerated such things on my own web-sites, and I also don't tolerate them on the sites that I visit.

Therefore, please take this moment to bask in "your latest technical development." I sincerely hope that you enjoy it, and that you contemplate most-seriously just what you have done.

Sundialsvcs often prefers to browse without logging on. This was brought up in the last thread he started about this.

Hi sundialsvcs ...

I hope there is something that can be worked out to where you would reconsider leaving. I and I'm sure many others consider your help and expertise to be invaluable and the forum would experience a loss from your departure.

To be honest, though, this does bring up the issue of revenue and how this site is funded. Perhaps some changes could made that would reduce or even eliminate the need for advertisements but yet still allow folks to be able to join and seek assistance without having to pay anything. Just a thought, although, I don't know if it's feasible.

I would be curious to hear Jeremy's thoughts.

EDIT: I'm a little confused. What ads are you seeing? I just tried using LQ in Internet Explorer 9 with an older version of Adblock Plus (not logged in) and saw absolutely no ads.

Regards...

Firefox, NoScript, AdBlock Plus.

Nary a problem.

I'm sure they must be there, but I have never seen them, myself.

A good hosts file or ublock origin, either one works great.

Thanks for the feedback. I can confirm that we haven't made any changes that would impact ads recently. I can also confirm that visiting LQ with uBlock Origin installed while not logged in doesn't show any ads. As always, logged in members with a few posts will never see ads.

Can confirm too. No ads with uBlock and no login.

Also, don't go man, we'll miss the properly formatted posts with good amount of bold, italic and underline usage, feels good to read your posts.

Regards.

to sundialsvcs (if that counts): actually I don't like ads and don't like your last post (this one), although I always did acknowledge your comments and your presence.

That must be something on your end, sundialsvcs. Probably a plugin failing to do its job? I can only confirm the previous feedbacks from fellow LQ members: not a single ad can be seen here, either as a guest and as a logged in member.

I hope that you will reconsider your decision, and keep posting on this forum!

Cheers
Philip

I can't recall seeing an ad after logging in to LQ, other than the few on the front page.

To be honest, I very rarely see any ads here on LQ, even when I'm not logged in. The only plug-ins I use that have an effect on ads are Adblock Plus and NoScript.
