Forums>Search Forums: looking for a given string.

Hi:

Is there a way to look for the string 'software architecture' in the LQ posts?

Did you try this ?

As Anisha indicates, the LQ Search page is what you need. And further: directly under the text area where you enter your query on the search page, there is a little drop-down menu where you can choose to "search titles only" or "search entire posts" - you probably want the latter selection.

Cheers!

Yes, I've tried. I know a string such as 'alice in wonderland' won't be found, because the preposition will be discarded. Neither would 'wonderlan' because it isn't a word. So, looking for strings is, in general, impossible, AFAIK. Regards.

Most kind of you, GrapefruiTgirl.

But still you can search through TAGS !
Top of this page: Search Menu -> Search Tags

But do not put there "Software Architecture", that won't work, instead put "Software" and "Architecture" separately one by one.

Thanks a lot. Regards.

If you want to search for an exact string, you need to place it in quotes.

Code:

"search for this string"
--jeremy

Wow, that was helpful. Thanks

I know my delay in answering your post is not able to be forgotten. I feel sorry for that. And I did not even try the "quoting device", not expecting it to work. But having received your reply, I tried it and it worked. Although string 'appy bo' won't be found in cases where 'happy boy' would be. Thanks a lot.
