Forum Windowsquestions.org ?

Hello,

It seems that there is androidquestions, Linuxquestions, but a Windowsquestions.org would be great.

If you go to www.windowsquestions.org you will find yourself at this forum. This is because Jeremy registered it several years ago. He hasn't created a separate forum because there are many many forums already out there doing this and Windows is not his focus. If you do a search you will see this has been asked for before.

And I have moved this to LQ Suggestions and Feedback.

"Search" Stack overflow.

Don't write anything there.

Yes, I am serious.

I believe that a real forum for windows like linuxquestions would be cool and useful.

I've searched for Windows help and I see a lot of it. Oddly, Google seems the best to search for help on microsoft.com still, after all these years.
I think anything with Windows in the name is probabably better given to marketing as lawyers will be set upon anybody using the name of the OS in vain.

Also, as I now tell anyone asking, call Microsoft and ask them for the help you are entitled to under your contract. I mean that absolutely seriously, by the way.

And largely impossible.

What makes LinuxQuestions.org great?

First is the somewhat nebulous thing we call "community". The LQ community has both breadth (technical, ideological, social, etc.) and depth (culture of sharing, sheer number of choices of application and method, continuity of code releases, etc... etc...) that simply does not exist for M$ commecial products.

Next, think about format. LQ is organized mainly around distros, there is no analog for that with M$ commercial products.

Finally, think about content.

How much of the ongoing discussion on LQ relates to security and bug fixes, dissemination of related patches, build scripts and in depth information... mostly not applicable to M$ commercial products, wait till patch Tuesday (or whatever it is now).

How much of the ongoing discussion on LQ relates to support for a full spectrum of older release versions and existing infrastructure that cannot be easily updated? Non-free M$ binaries preclude sharing of even old and unsupported versions, so the answer would always come down to update to newer, non-free version.

And of course, how many LQ threads revolve around access to source code and the simple, essential FREEDOM to copy/paste code in questions and replies? Licensing would prohibit virtually all of that in an M$ commercial product questions forum.

So, while you could certainly build a forum, and to some extent ad hoc community around M$ commercial products, it could never be "like" LQ in any essential way.

Great...so START ONE. Is there something stopping you??? Something stopping you from using any of the over FORTY TWO MILLION hits in Google for "windows help forum"??

Why do you continue to troll this site with Windows-related stuff???

If you love the 'flawless' Outlook program, and other 'great' Windows features, why do you continue to use Linux?
