Is there a way I could download the LQ archive so I could put it on CDROM and use it for offline reference ?

With over 2 million posts and thousands more being added every day I'm not too sure how useful or up to date that would be. If there are particular threads that are of interest to you, you can always switch to "print view" and copy/paste them to another file. Otherwise, I'm afraid there's no way of doing it.

Yes. You have to realize that whenever this is done (such as in Wikipedia) it completely defeats the purpose of having a dynamic, constantly improving database of information.
And please, I am unsure if you are aware of this already or not, but please do not attempt to download the site (or any site) using robot software. It is known to make servers crash resulting in unnecessary downtime and your IP address will most likely be blacklisted.

peter_89 is correct - trying to spider a site like LQ really does put a strain on things and you will eventually be blocked if you do so.
