A couple updates:
* It's likely that I'll disable the "Thanks" functionality for now. It's possible we'll bring it back in the future, but in a way that's better integrated into the visual look of the site. For now all data will be retained, so if the feature is brought back we will not be starting from square one.
* We are still actively looking for feedback on the "Did you find this post helpful" functionality. This type of system has worked extremely well for sites like Amazon and I think it has the potential to add a lot of value here at LQ.
* JZL240I-U, thanks for the feedback in your post. While I like some of the idea, I think it's a bit too involved for implementation at this time.
Thanks for the feedback - please keep it coming.

Indeed. What is more, you rate a thread at the end and not before you even read the thread. But by then you (well, I) are (am) immersed in the topic and forget about rating. So I'll be outing myself and confess to never having used the rating system for exactly that reason .
JZL240I-U, I agree. Perhaps if the "Rate Thread" link were on the "Quick Reply" title bar it would be more noticeable and get used more. However, it may also be that people don't want to put forth the effort to rate a thread and by moving it we may get a little more use but not enough to make it used a lot. I guess what I'm saying is, it is hard to say how much of the lack of use is based on lack of knowledge of the feature and how much is based on lack of desire of the user.

The "Thanked" score provided a figure of merit how certain good members are in providing answers.
For myself I liked to see how my score increased. Apparently I was good for at least something.
I think it is a mistake to remove it in a place where members provide useful contribution or are expected to do so. If you remove the hands from the dial it is hard to make someone tick.

OK, I'll chime in again with my
Personally, I think it all fits together perfectly now, as far as appearance is concerned. I did notice that you changed the wording in the "most helpful post" message box, and quite frankly I don't see any need for further changes on this feature, other than whatever search and "behind-the-scenes" functionality enhancements that can be achieved.
I have gone by intuition up to now. I use the blue thumb when it is obvious the reply has merit in another context but not useful for the problem at hand. I use the 'yes' functionality combined with the thumb up when the reply does help to solve the problem. I have never used 'no' option because 99% of all replies have been really good. Even those that have not been helpful which clearly show an effort in the right direction all deserve a blue thumb up. Only one so called 'guru' comes to mind from last year who was deliberately dismissive and rather arrogant. A 'no' is only appropriate in these circumstances. Unfortunately 'yes/no' option was not implemented then otherwise I would have used it.
It is not a contest. Given that you don't want to think that you are mituating in the wind so even if someone says 'thanks' then great but if they don't come back, then they have either sorted the problem or given up, either way, your job is done.
