Change User Name / Delete Account

Hello,

Is there a way to change my user name? Or. . . to delete my account and open a new one? Thanks.

Gus

I don't know about deletion, but if you want to change it, send Jeremy a mail citing your reasons.

OK, i found the answer to my question in the FAQ:

"You can alter any of the fields in your profile, except your username. Once you have registered your username, it becomes yours for life. In extreme circumstances, you may request that the administrator change your username, but he or she will require a very good reason to do so."

I guess i'll just open a new account and leave the old one unused. It's just that i have too many user names to remember from various boards and i'm trying to have as few as possible. Thanks.

I've found my previous account and i would like to restore it, but. . . is under a previous e-mail address. I still remember my old e-mail address, though. Thanks.

Please don't open multiple accounts if at all possible. If you already have, email me both names and I'll merge the two. Thanks.

Jeremy, i e-mailed you yesterday. I'll send you a duplicate message just in case. And, thanks a lot.

Perhaps a small addition to the FAQ, something like: "please do not open a new account to change your username... email jeremy..." etc?

Delete forum account

I want to delete my forum account here at linuxquestions.org

I'm not dissatisfied with this forum. It's a great linux forum, just not going to be using it anymore and wish my account to be deleted.

No account that has real posts is deleted - spammers and spambots and people who have never made a post, yes. Otherwise your account will have to stay live or else it creates orphan posts.

If you no longer wish to be a member here, go to your profile options and set all options not to notify you - that means that community bulletin as well as responses to posts. Once you have done that, change your password to be something very long and very unmemorable. And then log off LQ. In the absence of deletion, that is the best way to exit.

Out of interest, why do you no longer wish to be a member?

This *Might* sound silly ... But - Is having Orphaned posts that big a deal ?

Think about all the 'Search Engines' and if there is a good solution to a problem.

Thank you for being such a bunch of boneheaded designers!
I managed to make a typo when i picked my username, and now you are telling me that i have to go through hoops with emailing the ops get get it changed?
That is *hands down* the most stupid idea i have ever seen!
HINT: tie messages/posts to the user *ID* and not the user *name*, that way everyone can call themselves anything they bloody like, and change their login name as they see fit!

yours sincerely Andersjjensen now, and forever, AKA andersjjesnsen :-(

In the time it took you to post this, you could quite easily have emailed me (which really isn't that big of a hoop IMHO). Additionally, I don't know why you've inferring DB schema based on this policy decision - posts are tied to userid's.
