Can we have rant tags?
 

It might seem like a silly question (and maybe to some extent, it is), but given who doesn't like a good rant, at least once in a while, why not some rant tags? - eg. [rant][/rant]

I guess on the serious side, it could help separate meaningful comments from, well less meaningful comments.

Don't know if you can or not, but just a suggestion for the ranters out there anyways. ;)

And I suppose what's inside those tags should be rendered in Comic Sans, or some free-as-in-speech equivalent?

To me, LQ is more like (interactive) Wikipedia or 'man pages' (or how-to docs) than reddit, SO etc.
The LQrules seem to implicitly support this. But General seems to be the exception, allowing a bit of reddit etc 'closely-supervised watercooler talk' on LQ.

Edit: also, an 'ignore='don't display' rants option would be ?needed?, for like those who put General on their ignore list (not me: I read most everything on LQ but browse no other sites)

I meant like CODE tags, the "rant" appears inside a box with the word "rant" at the top of it.

I'm sure you do know a lot more than just 1% of Linux, your rep's pretty good, for someone who hasn't been here for that long! :)

Explain the advantage that the functional [rant/] tag would have over inserting a literal [rant]...[/rant]. Colors are there, indentation and fonts, font-styles, too... I may be too darned [sound style="echo:3"]DENSE[/sound] to grasp the idea.

Well, yeah that was in part kinda of the reason I started this thread, to see if other's think it *might* be worth doing... I guess also, the reason I said in post #1. Well that's all I can really think of anyway. It was just an idea, I'm not real fussed about it, in all honesty.

Just an idea for the suggestion box, really.

Unfortunately, I suspect those who might most need rant tags would be those not self-aware enough to know that they are ranting.

But I'm a cynical old goat.

Now THAT would be a nice tag to add. :D In this way it would just replace some smiley and [Nihilist Pessimist]I do not care to know, which[/NP]. But anyway.

Oddly I like the idea of a supported "rant" tag putting the rant in a box. I wonder if it would be feasible to give the box a dark red background instead of the usual blue/grey.

Yeah, I guess I can see where your coming from, but on the other hand, maybe it would benefit those that are self-aware enough to know? But having said that, yeah, I'd probably agree with that point.

You've kinda got me there, I'm not sure which way to think now... :p

I guess it's something one could be 50/50 on.

Being this a geek forum, everyone will instantly recognize the content inside [rant][/rant] as a rant... Besides, it looks more geeky ;)

I always felt that any, or all of, bold, red letters, ALL IN CAPS was the equivalent of a rant.
