Hi,

Have your company (or each individual) pay the Contributing Member subscription. Then you'll have the choice to turn off the banner ads (I don't have any ad in my LQ). You need to remember that this community is a free one, with only volunteers. Jeremy (the site admin) is doing a great job in keeping this site available and I'm sure you'll know this costs a lot of money. Advertising is one of the things that generate income to pay to keep the site alive. So, how would you feel about becoming a contributing member?

Kind regards,

Eric

So you mean to say that if I don't pay then I should expect to see "naked girls" on "LinuxQuestions.org" when I am in OFFICE?

I think you also need to remember that all people are not rich enough to donate money to others.
This is a technical website and (IMO) the advertisements displayed here should be "civilized" enough so that they don't create embarrassing situations for others.

Cultural difference!

Hi,

I don't know what ads get shown on LQ since I don't have them activated. You can always take that up with [edit: email address removed, please use the contact form]. And you don't have to use LQ at the office, that's your choice. Just as it is your choice not to pay as a contributing member, but you know that if you don't the possibility to deactivate ads is not a choice you have.

I'm not even going into a discussion about cultural differences here. But I don't consider ads about women's lingerie (like the screenshot you posted) offending, but that's just me.

Kind regards,

Eric

That isn't an ad that should be displayed here at LQ. I'm double checking with our ad providers to ensure it doesn't happen again.

Well anything can happen
a script grabs adds from a list on site "b"
one of those adds looks up a list on site "c"
one of those looks up a list of adds on site "d"
and so on

before you know it you are 5 to 6 layers of cookies and scripts deep and no-script has 25 scripts to block

Now
This site is rather good about NOT letting the above happen

but when the McAfee site is advertising for a Trojan horse program

so anything is possible
