can I change my ID?

Can I change my LQ ID without making a new account? I assume not.

Not generally. This needs to be done by Jeremy, our valiant leader, personally, and he generally has much better things to do with his time. I would expect a small donation might help your cuase though ;-)

newbiesforever (as of this posting -- it may change ),

He did for me, I think just after my 1st post. You have enough posts that the Q of identity confusion is raised. I also don't know if all your old posts would get "renamed" automatically.

What do you want to change to?

What is your good reason for it?

You will have to e-mail Jeremy, w/ the reason, to have it happen.

I think newbiesforever fits pretty well. You've been around forever and still ask rudimentary questions. You gonna change it to CarlosWillToo

rickh, what was the point of your comment? If you don't have something productive to say, don't post.

newbiesforever, if you'd like your username changed, contact me offline with the desired change.

The first posts here, aside from the bribery jokes, suggest that I'm wasting Jeremy's time; and others say I shouldn't change without a good reason. Which I don't have. I'm just someone who never keeps the same name forever on a message-posting site. (In the several Doctor Who forums I've been in since 2000, I've gone through more names than I can count.) I withdraw my request (which technically wasn't a request).

Chris,

If that is a Q for me, & the answer matters; then an LQ search of this forum, my user name, & "name change" will, IIRC, get you more info. than you wanted to know.

It's not that you're wasting Jeremy's time, it's just that it is somewhat disruptive. For example, in this thread, anyone that has addressed you by name will seem to be addressing a completely different person - one who hasn't even posted here.

Really, it's just one id on the net and changing does involve some work by Jeremy. Just leave it as it is, as many will say here we're all newbies, no matter how long we've been using Linux.
