Can't use long password in LinuxQuestions.org. What is maximum lenght?

I tried changing my password to a 64 character one today and it didn't give me any errors. I couldn't however log in using that password. I presume LinuxQuestions.org cuts the password at a certain lenght.

How long can the password be?

Could there be a warning if password is changed to be too long?

How did you log in to post here? Did you use the old password, or try various trimmed variations of the new password. If it was the latter, how many chars was it?

Just reset my password.

I might try later to increase the lenght one character at a time until I can't log in anymore. I just figured that someone might know the actul maximal lenght.

Why "LOL"? I can't see anything amusing about a bug fix being contained in a service pack. Isn't that what service packs are for?

Original question was about long passwords, posted URL was about long passwords. Can you see any connection now?

Guess I'm off to install the latest service pack then. Maybe I can then use a 18770 character password with LQ too.

The original question was a botu passowrds for LQ. The link is (as far as I can tell) about passwords for Windows 2000 Datacenter Server. It is certainly nothing to do with LQ passwords!

My post concerned long passwords in general, your posts are about particular instances. End of discussion as far as I'm concerned.

Maximum lenght is 31 characters. If longer password is set, no error is given but it's impossible to log in with the new password or it's equavalent that's reduced to 31 characters.

I think 31 characters is good enough for a web forum, but please add an error message in case someone tries to set a longer password.

Thanks for the feedback. Please add this to the bug tracker and we'll address it in a future code release.
