View Poll Results: should there be a new moderator apointed?
Originally posted by XavierP One of the things I plan to implement (at least until Jeremy finds out and slaps me down) is random bannings. I'll pick members at random and ban them for some spurious reasons - too many vowels, not enough l33t-speak, that sort of thing.
Otherwise, do a search for and you'll end up with a "best of the mods"
Oh man.. random bannings are great.. its when all the mods get together and we all pick who we think needs to be banned, so then we ban.. we tried to ban Jeremy once, that didn't go so well..
Is a new mod required?
just to insert a small question here. How hard is it for you to moderate LQ?
It's very easy most of the time... Like I've expressed myself in past posts about getting new moderators, I don't think we need more but perhaps shuffling mods to be able to cover more of the forums always helps..
In most cases of moderating.. its not an emergency. Just cause we get a report that someone has double posted doesn't mean lives are at stake and it can be a day or two before its handled.
I think the occasions where there is a troll or spammer attacking the forums, or a member has gone nuts and started a rampage, we usually handle the situations very quickly.
My personal opinion is: We don't necessarily need more mods here, I think the current mods could just have moderator powers in more forums than they currently have now.
ah... so for example a couple of days ago there was something that needed to be moved (? if memory serves) and acid replied in a very moderator tone- but he couldn't do anything. I was shocked- but then I realised that only jeremy can 'mess with' Website Suggestions & Feedback - (which the bad post was in.)

and judging by your post count, which is higher than Jeremy, you have been doing a good job
To all who noticed that I had added a 'p' - thank you. You are all now on the list
Moderating LQ is not as hard as it looks - we have a great team of Mods and knowledgeable members. Threads are also, as I like to say, "self-cleaning": someone will derail a thread or post something silly and we'll get a number of posts berating (if that's the right word) that person. Then someone will post something sensible and it gets back on track. In fact, this thread is a good example of that.
The extra 'p' is because the '[' key and the 'p' key are far too close together.

Post count has nothing to do with being a good moderator.. I just spend more time helping others and interacting with members while Jeremy does all the behind the scenes work.. at one time he was the only person doing it all in the early days, administering, answering members questions.. moderating.. etc.

No doubt, a website with only a mod and hungry Linux User for answer would have been an heavy task. I was more thinking that it was surprising you had a higher post count than, well anyone else(?)
Well, therefore, you have been doing a good job overall. ... and XavierP as well, I'm still thankful for the last answer. Well, isn't it simpler to say your all doing a good job and that's why your are there ?
