I'm pretty sure you got it, good job. I have been searching the site for them, and suddenly, they disappeared. Thank you so much Jeremy, it's great to have a site clean of all that MS stuff.

EDIT: Not sure if this always comes up, but there is an Amazon ad selling MS Home and Pro, I saw this ad twice and it always had one of them. I have a picture of it, but that's all that I got, it was a multi-picture ad, but next time I see it, I'll copy the location, etc., although this one is not nearly as severe as the windoze vs linux thing, after all, they aren't only selling Windows, but this ad has no use whatsoever to the site since it also advertises a Windows game I think.

Sorry if we keep giving you work, Jeremy.

Like I said, Microsoft is more than free to advertise here, it's the "get the facts" and other similar campaigns that I am unwilling to run.

I couldn't agree more. AFAIK LQ, despite being the huge success that it is, does not pay for itself through advertising and donations and therefore the removal of advertising on moral grounds is to be applauded all the more. I for one would like to see even more positive energy flowing through the open source community and less Redmond bashing. Their business model is simply not sustainable against F/OSS and is already (I believe) showing signs of starting to crumble. However lets champion and advocate our cause and not get caught up in their flaws. Ever on to victory!
Regards
Chris

I would personally love to see Microsoft ads here.

Why?

1. I would click it every time I see it, earning you money to keep this site running
2. Make at least a minscule dent in M$'s advertising budget
3. I generally don't click ads unless I have an intent to buy, but with M$'s FUD campaign and their shift toward treating every customer like a criminal, I have no problem with repeatedly clicking their ads just to cost them advertising money. I abandoned Windows on the desktop, for the most part, and as soon as I find a suitable replacement for Exchange (we need shared scheduling) and mono matures a little more, I will be punting Windows from the servers and putting my licenses up on FeeBay.

Please reconsider - I'm sure that many of us will click their ads without intending to buy. Besides, their "get the FUD^H^H^Hfacts" campaign is highly amusing.
AOL, but no FUD ads please.

Does this one count as MS FUD, and should it hence be removed?

I would not consider that add as fud because they are advertising a product that is probably useful to some members on this site and they are not spreading fud about Linux in the process.

Anyway, as oneandoneis2 pointed out at the start of the thread, being a contributing member enables you to get rid of all ads.
And it is very comfortable to read like that..

OK, fair enough. It did seem to imply that switching to M$ from Linux would improve the user's work, but never mind. I'll take that screendump down when I get the chance.

BTW, I don't actually mind the ads.

Oh my god. This is the first time I have seen a Get the facts campaign. I must say I feel sorry for Bill to go to such a low level. Bill, you disgust me.

This is almost like the american elections. Trash the other candidate in order to win. What's pathetic is, that this actually works in the real world.

I really respected Bill Gates, he is a great man. You have to admit that. But I don't respect him anymore, now that I've seen how low and dirty he and his company can go.

And just to get the facts straight. I leave the choice to choose an OS to everyone. As MS should leave us with that choice. However communities are already so far, that the comunities impose an OS to you, when you are born. Very sadly.
