Add tags to a newbie-post

Good afternoon all.

I am still ranking as a newbie and cannot add new tags to my post(ing)?s. I would like to add existing tags, but they are a priori not available on the edit-form. Curiously enough, after submission of a new posting, the blue label Tags is becoming a real hyperlink which opens a list of tags. For the time I do not feel encouraged to use any of these.

As this list of existing tags is not huge, you should try to present it on the edit-form, somewhere. Just flat tag-names, no need for links.

While you can add tags to your thread, you cannot create new tags. There are currently almost 10,000 tags in the system, however. Do note that if you start typing in the tag textbox, it will autocomplete existing tags (if you have javascript enabled).

Perhaps if you have terms which you feel merit tag names and don't feel they are represented, you can share them and then Jeremy or the moderators can clarify if the term is just different in verbiage from how you coin the phrase, or if they feel it is a valid string which they should add.

@rtmistler, Note that any member in the "Senior Member" usergroup or above can add tags.

Explains why I "thought" I just typed stuff before and it ended up being accepted I don't always create many new threads.

Good old java script.., if it were.
I see that this is an Ajax function. But I am living in an area with no ADSL and my satellite connection, albeit more expensive than a normal ADSL access, tends to be unreliable when it works and almost unusable the rest of the time.

I apologize, but I have been unaware of the autocomplete function. My download rate will move you to tears but under normal circumstances the current solution should be fine, I guess.
