Add hilite option to searches

Could we have the option to hilite the search term in the search results. I've found that too many times the search term is't even contained in some or even most of the results. Hilite would make it a lot easier to skim past "empty" results. So would better search results. A search on E4rat even generates an error message.

LQ already highlights the search term when you open an individual thread from the search results, in bold red, (though I generally find it easier to use the browsers in-page searching, i.e. Ctrl-F).

The search engine doesn't return results for no reason - maybe it's a multi-page thread or something.

(If you've got a specific example, post it.)

This is a known issue - often times refreshing is enough to solve it.

When that still doesn't work, using a different search engine (e.g. https://duckduckgo.com) with the additional term "site:linuxquestions.org" allows you to restrict your searches to LQ.

If you go via another search engine, it will of course lack the built-in highlighting, but you can manually add "?highlight=keyboard" to the URL, e.g:
https://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/lq-suggestions-and-feedback-7/add-hilite-option-to-searches-4175709424/?highlight=search

Add hilite option to searches

ureadahead is one example. I get a lot of results, but I haven't seen any mention of that. I've searched on readahead and have seen a few results that include that word, but most did not, and those that did were not hilited in any way. I have been posting from tke app on my phone. Maybe that is part of the problem. Other than e4rat, I haven't searched for anything else while using the app.

I searched "ureadahead" and every result I checked contained the term (I gave up after a dozen or so).

As I suspected, some do have multiple pages, for example: https://www.linuxquestions.org/quest...ml#post6139116 and https://www.linuxquestions.org/quest...ml#post6036566

Another issue is that many are just passing references, but that isn't something the a basic search engine can easily determine.

Sounds likely. Try using a browser...?

Add hilite option to searches

I just did a search for Devuan in the Debian forum. The search found the search term but did not hilite it. Evidently, searches made from the LQ mobile app won't be hilited, at least not in the version installed on my android phone which is running kitkat 4.4.2 (I think).
