A sincere apology and a suggestion
 

Hi everyone.....

I would like to apologize for making a double post on the linux software and then later on the general forum. While I was aware that it was not right to make a double post, but a lack of reply even after 56 views was quite disheartening, the most imp factor was that even the moderators didnt take notice of my issue going unresolved.

I would like to inform everybody that it was not my inention to hurt anyone when I addressed my problem specifically to the "moderators'.....the only reason being that they notice my issue remaining unresolved...However, if my post has hurt any of my friends at LQ, I would like to apologize for the same.....

But, even now, the question that I had posted hasnt been replied to....I would like to bring the attention of the moderators to the fact, that you guys were quite serious about reminding me about the rules of the forum....but you haven't been that serious when it comes to solving my issue...I feel that may be, this post of mine has been intentionally ignored.....

At the end I would like to say that I am aware that I made a mistake by making 2 different posts and addressing one of it explicitly to the moderators which was not the best thing to do...I'll make sure that I dont do it in future...However, as a loyal member of LQ, I hope that my issues will be looked into with equal seriousness......and not left unnoticed..the way it has been in the case of (Volume Control in GNOME) issue....

Well, I don't have much to offer. I read your posts, and saw that people replied at least. The bottom line is, if no one knows how to fix it, then there isn't much we can do. I can guarantee that someone isn't withholding the answer to tease you. That said, why isn't it saving? I have no idea, but things I would check.

1) start the gnome mixer from the command line, set to a specific value, save, see if errors come out.
2) restart the same mixer, then see if the volume was persistant.
If it was, then it is being reset in the logout/login process. Do you select 'Save Session' when you exit?
If it wasn't persistant from 1 to 2, were there any errors?

Anyway, I know that the above is annoying, however, create a workaround. Put a desktop icon that sets the mixer with a single click.
Start aumix, set it up the way you want, save the file, then create an icon that executes 'aumix -f <saved file>'.

I can assure you that the thread was not intentionally ignored. Everyone here is a volunteer and it may take a small amount of time before someone who knows the answer comes across your question.

this website has a new feature, view posts with 0 replies, so as to expidite answers, but after all this is a forum consisting of linux users like you and me, so there is no guarantees that your problem will be solved, several of my questions have yet to be answered, and they were posted 2 years ago, i feel your pain man, really

I would also like to add that Moderators aren't here to moderate if questions are answered, again stating that everyone here are answering in their own free time for other members, including Moderators as well. We also just carry a special privilege over others for specific reasons mentioned below.

Moderators main function are to moderate the forums for any abuse, members not following rules, etc. As many of our moderators are very knowledgeable and may answer many questions, you cannot hold them reliable for also making sure every question is answered, that would be impossible with the amount of traffic we carry on these sites.

You have to realize that you are posting on a free forum, its not gaurantee someone is going to know the answer to every question.

In addition to the role of moderators that you have mentioned, I probably also included an additional task ....that a moderator is supposed to be someone who jumps to the rescue, if no one else is able to solve the problem...

However, I am convinced with your detailed explanation of a moderator's job.....This is the first forum that I have taken an active part in....and have got quick replies till that last one......hence the expectations had been high.....I will, however, revise my expectations now.....So I hope that you dont see me defaulting anymore....

And i am happy to say that u guys at LQ are doing a great job out there....and I am proud to be a member of the Linux as well as LQ community.

With your permission however, I would like to continue the Volume Control Issue in the same thread......

Yep! I've had a few that were posted back when I was still under 'newbie' status that still haven't been replied to (I suspect... something about multiple soundcards I think) but I'm not complaining. This site is possibly the most helpful resouce that I have found for Linux issues (which is why I stayed with it), but that doesn't mean that it should be the only resource. The Internet is awash with Linux information, so if your post goes unanswered, you should search around the Internet more than you have done previously. Also, if there is anything you have tried since you originally posted your question, then reply to your own post including any relevant advances you have made... and it also serves to bump your thread to the top of the 'unread' list!
