I thought we had this category once with Raspberry Pi taking the cake?

Here could be some suggestions: https://www.fsf.org/givingguide/v6/

or: http://www.ohwr.org/projects
this one definitely needs some digging... (I'll be back,)
ARMadillo sounds cool not sure how open?

Adding ideas:
Furnarius Rufus PCB Milling Machine
Sensorbox (handheld measurement terminal)
SPI Boards Package
Video Processing Platform (MIXXEO).

https://www.thinkpenguin.com/gnu-lin...c-audio-player

http://wiki.hfday.org/CreateYourEventpage ...good site tho not a suggestion, still digging... not to-mention again the credit-card sized computers out with Pi2 e.g: linux.com/.../top-10-open-source-linux-boards-under-200 ...

We did have a category that the Raspberry Pi won (and contained Beagle Board and Arduino), but RPi isn't really Open Hardware and the category will end up containing a bunch of items that are so different that they are nearly impossible to really compare.

After a little thought, an Open Source Hardware Board category might be interesting. Could contain: Arduino, Beagle, Panda, Banana Pi and others.

Cool.

That "Portable OGG & FLAC Audio Player"\gamer from thinkpenguin.com looks neat maybe lumped in with others:
http://openhandhelds.org/
http://www.gcw-zero.com/
like that one that I think is still too pricey: https://boards.openpandora.org/pyramain/main/

I'm gonna go broke this year...

Thanks for the considering best package manager category. As I said before, I think "Best Linux distribution installer" would be a worthwhile category.

Open source 3D printing (or general DIY/Make) software would be a nice category to see.

I think it would be nice to allow multple selections in some catagory's like file manager/text editor etc, as a number of people myself included don't just use one particular application to do for instance text editing, I myself use a vim, KKEDit and leafpad depending on the need.

Please keep graphics application of the year. Maybe graphics isn't specific enough. Image editing application of the year may be a better choice. That would then go along with audio and video authoring applications of the year.

How about best init systems, would give a good idea how many people are actually using systemd, sysv, runit, busybox etc.

The category has been by far one of the most lopsided for multiple years running now. While it will likely be rotated out this year it's possible we'll iterate on it in the future (having Vector App of the Year one year and Raster App of the Year the next, as a possible example).

I've moved "VoIP Application of the Year" to the Proposed for Removal category. Still looking for feedback on all categories in addition to removals/additions. Feedback on "Open Source Hardware Board" and "Desktop/Laptop Linux OEM" are also welcome. Thanks.

Hi Guys
I would like to propose another category "Unclassified New of the Year". Basically to cover any new product/idea that will not fit on any of the above. From time to time a new concept/software will emerge and will produce a stir, think of it like when Netscape, Skype, WhatsApp, Bitnami, Docker, Puppet, Etc. arrived, there was not a category for them.

Cheers
