2010 LinuxQuestions.org Members Choice Award Categories
It's almost time for the 2010 LinuxQuestions.org Members Choice Awards. Here is the list of proposed categories for this year. Keep in mind that while we understand that some categories end up containing projects that might not be directly comparable, it's simply not feasible to have enough categories to be all encompassing. If you have suggestions on additions, subtractions or modifications, let us know. I'll be finalizing the list and posting the polls later this week.

Looks good.
I think there is still a place for mail clients. I and a lot of folks I know refuse to use webmail except for emergencies. On the other hand, there have not been many developments in the mail client arena for a while; that could be enough to at least table the category for a while. |
The polls have been posted, however voting is not open yet. Please let me know if you have any corrections or additional candidates ASAP. Voting will officially open very soon.

The categories look really good. Additionally, I really like the idea of introducing the web framework category.

In general, entries should be the name of the software, rather than the command to run them. For example, "emacs" in the text editor category should be "Emacs". There may be other examples, but I've not really had time to check.
Also, in the programming language category, do enough people use R to justify it as an entry? I've used R myself, but it's really quite specialised software (statistics and data analysis), rather than more general purpose than other languages in the poll. |
I personally think i3 should be added to the window manager category. I know of at least one mod here who would agree with it:)

Now that I see the options for each, here are some recommendations for next time:
VOIP app Split "Office Suite of the Year" into: Word processing app Spreadsheet app or maybe keep the suite and add the two. I mean where is gnumeric for example, and lyx, and abiword, texmacs, etc. |

Based on feedback, the need to consolidate polls and the fact that the suite winner took every award multiple years in a row (if I remember correctly, gnumeric was the only nominee to consistently give competition and I think it even won at times).

Ok, so then I guess I might vote for GNOME office, which would include gnumeric ?
