'classifieds' section anyone?

i understand that there are legitamate ways to by text ads, but how about a 'classified ads' section for people who have hardware or software they want to sell, or are looking to buy from someone? the posts could remain up for a limited time and/or until the ad is not needed anymore, then deleted from the forum
all in favor please vote yes
please leave your oppinions as well

At this time I don't think this would be appropriate at LQ - there should be enough other sites out there to accomplish this. As always things in the future may change. Thanks for the suggestion.

My vote would also be no. As a classified section would bring lots of spammers, unwanted postings, etc to the forums. I think it would also be very trashy looking for a help site like this to have a classifieds area when, like jeremy stated, there are plenty of classifieds sites already out there.

I'd say the SPAM issue could probably be solved by imposing very strict rules on the forum itself using some fairly preset forms etc. so you couldn't go about selling just whatever - Some further authentication of the users could also be in order and possibly a form of micro payment via paypal or similar services could bring in revenue for LQ.... - Spammers probably wouldn't want to be paying for anything would they now?

I'd rethink the issue if I governed a site like this and had access to such potential revenue stream that could be put to good use for the community!
