Toshiba ACPI Test and Power Save Solution
 

Dear Friends,
I've met some problem when apply the acpi on my Toshiba laptop days ago, A15 series. With the help of people in this forum, I made some test on my lap and got something useful. I know that is not a something. I just want those who meet the same problem could save their time.
I've install the RH Fedora 1 (2.4.22) on my laptop. Although it declare good support to ACPI,I cannot stimulate the function after several times test. It's frustrated not see the /proc/acpi after recomile the module into my kernel. The direct purpose I want apply the acpi is to adjust the lcd backlight by it, However, almost all the drivers or 'suits' are based on that.
So, I began to update my kernel and found 2.4.25, 2.6.6 can do that. What have to be done is compile the acpi and toshiba extra into its kernel. And you can adjust the bk light just by echo "brightness : ?">/proc/acpi/toshiba/lcd

To other ways for saving the power, changing the frequency is also helpful. You can do that if you lap have an Intel P-4M or P-M processer. Then the RH's 2.4.22 ,2.6.6 from kernel.org is helpful. I don't know why the 2.4.25 less support to Moblile Processor. That's great because you can tell your cpu running on its 50% clock to save such a mount of power. The module in kernel is, Intel Speed Step.
