swop out hard disk migration plan

here's is my hdd swop out story;

i wanted to remove one of my eide HDD's without having to rebuild ubuntu and keeping all of my data intact

system details:

80G eide hdd X2
i386
amd k7
ubuntu dapper

purpose: migrate ubuntu system to secondary HDD(hdb) - remove primary HDD from system to sell- no lomger reqwuired - want to migrarte ubuntu dapper to new HDD without a rebuild

0. backed up all data and system of hda to dvd

1. tried using partitiion image within ubuntu unix shell - kept failing to create image initially - then kept failing to restore - has a problem at 2GB mark

2. symntec ghost dos v9 worked perfect - created image of dapper partiton (approx 2.2gb) - restore was successful to hdb ext3 partition - different partition number and size was not an issue - booted restored ubuntiu dapper image on hdb(using comand line within grub (hda grub)): success

3. installed new grub (grub install) to hdb mbr (now acting as hda as idiconnected old hda)

4. disconnected hdb and booted to knoppix on cdrom

5. DD'd randomed and zero'd old hda (4 hours)

6. physically removed old hda and sold on ebay

7. rekonected hdb power and ide cable (now acting as hda) and booted ubunnu dapper system - as restored

comment: pc is so much queiter now using one quality ide HDD

conclusion:

understand grub, use symantec ghost for imaging

...or cheaper and more convenient, understand grub, use dd for imaging.

how to load Debian Sarge on a Libretto 70CT with Dynamic Disk Overlay. The hard disk is 10GB. I have attempted swopping the drive with DELL laptop...but once instalation starts it only recognises 7GB!I had already partitioned the disk into two halfs. I have Win98SE on on the first half. I have not put any other programs in yet. If I wipe the entire hard disk and install Sarge would the Libretto Bios allow me to boot up?
