I am running SuSE 9 on a laptop dual booted with Windows 98. I plan on taking Windows 98 off this weekend since I don't use it any longer.
I had difficulties getting OpenOffice.org 1.1 to recognize the Windows fonts I loaded into my SuSE using the font installer.
After a search of the support files on SuSE and OpenOffice.org, I turned to the internet. The best suggestion was to copy and paste the fonts into OpenOffice.org's font folder: /usr/share/fonts. However, I was still having trouble until I moved them into /usr/share/fonts/true type. Now OpenOffice.org uses the Windows 98 fonts without a problem.
My second problem with SuSE 9 was trouble access my USB zip drive, SuSE does not seem to be correctly using the hotplug feature of USB. I still haven't figured out how to automate the process, or fix the native automation.
However, I was able to manually force SuSE to look for my Zip drive. In root, I opened a command window and typed /etc/hotplug/usb.agent and then I typed /usr/sbin/checkhotmounts.
Give it a couple of moments, then the Zip drive appears on the desktop. When I go back to my own profile, my zip drive is available.
