I thought this is a success story so I'm posting it here.
I've been a Slackware user now since August (previously Suse). Well I'm so delighted with Slack that I have been singing its praises rather a lot and telling my family they should use it. My son has already been using it in preference to Windoze (my PC is dual-boot) and has now installed Slackware on his laptop.
Best of all though, my wife, who uses Windoze every day at work and who would never give Suse the time of day, has been trying out Slack for the last fortnight. Yesterday she said she wanted to use the PC after me and out of habit I rebooted into Windoze for her. With the comment "why on earth did you do that?" she immediately rebooted back into Slack. I think that's one up for the penguin and a big thankyou to the Slackware guys.
I just recently started using Slackware as well, and my wife is fairly comfortable with it now. It's infectious!
The Slacking continues. All of these people are running Slackware 9.1/10/current:
- Me
- My wife
- My dad
- My mom
- My sister
- My brother-in-law
- 2 friends of mine
Currently we're convincing/have convinced my brother, his friend, and at least another half dozen people.
- Currently dual-booting between Slack 10 and WinXP, but can't remember the last time I booted into WinXP -
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
And no wonder if your Win is as slow and iffy as mine! You're right, if I want to do anything with the files on My Win partition, play MP3's or whatever, I do it from within Slack now. Haven't tried an emulator yet though. Must put that on my to-do list.
Here is a list of all the people around me I know they use Slackware:
-Me
-My father
-My mother (yes, my mother)
-My brother
-My girlfriend (she's addicted to SuperTux)
-My girlfriend's brother (the same addiction)
-My girlfriend's nephews aged 6 and 8
-One uncle and one aunt.
-Two friends of mine, both owners of cybercafes.
-Some more friends, at least 2.
I am in the way of convincing some more people, mostly vicious gamers.
