Kernel Panic resolved
After days of trying to resolve an error when installing Red Hat 8, it is finally working.
The error occurred right after the hard drive was partitioned during the install:
<0>Kernel panic: Aiee, killing interupt handler!
In Interrupt handler - not syncing
After narrowing the problem down to the hard drive, I received some interesting commands to run at the boot prompt. I booted the system using a 98 floppy boot disk, and ran these commands:
Debug
- FCS:200 400 0
- ACS:100
MOV AX, 301
MOV BX, 200
MOV CX, 1
INT 13
INT 20
<CR> (carriage return. Hit enter)
G
Q
I am a UNIX guy, not a DOS guy, so I am not sure what these commands do. My hunch is that there was a bad sector on my hard drive, and these commands cleaned it up.
Hope this helps someone having this same problem.
