i finally can consider my self as semi-smart

now this isn't to put anyone else down or anything but i now consider myself as a true linux user. thanks to Clinton De Young (The Very Verbose Debian 3.0 Installation Walkthrough:from was able to install debian on my system and actually get it to work. i am loving apt-get. this thing is awsome. before i had tried this i was trying to follow the official install instructions. i just couldn't get the damn thing to work. also i would like to thank Mr. Young for writing The Very Verbose Guide to Updating and Compiling Your Debian Kernel:from with it was was not scared to move from kernel ver 2.2.20 => 2.4.21. this is making me very pleased. and one other thing, i have noticed that WindowMaker isn't really all that bad as a WM. it has some of the things that i liked with flux/blackbox but has some other bonuses. i have my intranet site going and am on a roll. if mister young is listening,.....thank you my friend.
(oh yeah, and who ever listed osnews in one of the threads i thank you too for i would not have found out how easy it is to install debian if i hadn't found that site)

if you would like to go to the site and read up on the "easy" install of debian i have listed the site in the text and in my sig

just an update here. i reformated my box lastnight as a way to keep me awake while the wife was shopping and i had no one to talk to. so i spent about 5 minutes thinking about going to sorcerer. i even booted to the disc then was like...... nnnnaaaaaaa!
i stopped the run and put debian woody back in. i deviated from the instructions listed above by two little things.
         1. didn't install WindowMaker. i went back to Fluxbox as
i am more comfortable with it. it just feels good.
         2. didn't install synaptic. i figured that i didn't need it. apt-
get is so easy and the fact that if i can't open it while
logged in as user then what is the purpose. all i got to
do is get lynx and look up the app i want, see if it is in
the debian list, then apt-get install it.
i am at work right now (i hate renting a cable modem) so i can't do anything but i am still needing to update my kernel (this time i will include ide support so i can listen to cd's), i also need to configure the sound card from hell (au8820 => p.i.t.a. to install) and get a few apps that i would like to have on there.
i will keep you posted on my progress. (as you really care)
