Huawei SmartAX MT-882 ADSL router works well
I have just made the move to broadband using TalkTalk Talk3 package with '8Mb' broadband and above router. Getting set up was like wading through treacle blindfolded - TalkTalk call centre unaware that workstations use anything except Microsoft/MacOS and router came with briefest of install instructions. Huawei website does not have a downloadable manual for the MT-882 (ethernet and USB) but does have one for MT-880(ethernet only). The following points may help others.
The Link and LAN lights on the router show green whilst booting up but turn to amber once live. Apparently amber denotes enhanced function 100Mb Lan instead of 10M and presumably ADSL2 instead of ADSL. Anyone know where I can get the manual?
PC internal ethernet port needs enabling in PC BIOS - Yast hardware information showed it even though it was disabled.
I used Firefox to access router IP page. Data input was straightforward - but needed to be done twice before it became permanent. Lots of potential input screens to tune router - once I get manual.
Disallow DNS Server, Mail Server and POP3 server - all came up automatically during OpenSuse 10.2 installation.
Receive mail server in TalkTalk is mail.talktalk.net and send is smtp.talktalk.net.
Name servers are 62.24.128.17 and 62.24.128.18.
TalkTalk provide a 'Connect and Go' disk for Microsoft/Mac which automatically sets up mail and web using above info. Suse cannot read the disk (even with appletalk enabled)although it knows it is 245Mb and full. CentOS4.4 live CD will show directory entries but cannot open anything useful. Eventually found by trial and error.
Any others out there struggling to achive same???? It is worth it.
