grub removal

help!!!!!!!!!!!!

My brother in law talked us into linux (we are not very computer literate) then left the country. We want to remove linux and install windows again (98). My husband started to remove linux but..........here comes grub and we cannot get rid of it and are going nuts. Everytime we turn on the computer comes on the black screen and the grub info. He has tried to to save bootable whatever (cannot remember) from the internet onto a floppy to use to help get rid of grub, nothing doing. We really need help. Can someone explain in elementary turms how we can get rid of grub so we can install windows again and use the computer????

Thanks at my brother in law

The proceedure is essentially the same with Windows 98. Read the instructions on the microsoft site.

# How do I uninstall Linux completely and keep/use Windows only?
How to Remove Linux and Install Windows 2000
How to Remove Linux and Install Windows XP
You can remove lilo from the mbr with
/sbin/lilo -u
You can remove grub or lilo from the mbr by booting with a Windows 98 boot floppy (at the prompt, type fdisk /mbr), or by using the Windows XP Recovery Console or the Windows 2000 Recovery Console

If you don't have a W98 boot floppy, it's created under add/remove programs for some strange reason.
