coolest thing you've done in linux, part II

instead of digging up a really old, really long thread i figured it's time to start a new one here ;)

i'll start off with a short list of cool things things i've done recently

WYSE terminal+old green screen attached to composite out of nvidia video card
Code:

$ export DISPLAY=:0.1 vlc {playlist}.pls
(run from WYSE terminal on /dev/ttyS0)

hamachi+sshfs+chroot :P

wintv PVR + mencoder + cron :)

replaced firmware of linksys router with dd-wrt

well it may not be very advanced but I'm still noobing around. I have learnt about the flexibility of Linux and for my desktop environment i have settled on a hybrid xfce/gnome2 with kwin window manager.

Code:

cd `pwd | sed -e 's/{oldpathlement}/{newpathelement}/g' [-e's/{oldpathlement}/{newpathelement}/g' ...]`
especially useful when working on a server that hosts websites due to the similar but rather deep nature of the paths involved.

I resized my Windows XP NTFS partitions by using Ubuntu's disk manager (GParted?) from the Live CD.
Later, M$ stole this idea, and now it's built-in their newer products.

hello kuser. just wanted to let you know. I've used Microsoft's partition editor on windows 7 and it is inferier to gparted. it limits the amount you can shrink the windows partition. it will also refuse to remove some of windows hidden partitions.
