'make check' resulted in a lot of unexpected failures (>1000)
but just doing 'make install' cleared them all but 2...
(RedHat 7.2 i386). A shame if you're waiting to clear the checking stage before installing..
Is this a question or a success story? If its some kind of success, I'll keep it in this forum, if its not, well, its in the wrong forum and I'll move it.
It is your forum so i won't loose time arguing with you.
You ask for stories where people are stuck with a problem but at the end can get out of it. So i'll try explain mine in a few more words..
As i don't want to pollute my system with garbage i usually do a 'make check' before installing sg. As it happened the checks on gcc's libjava testsuite resulted in a lot errors. So i tried to find what was going wrong. I didn't find it and finally succombed to the tentation and installed the darned thing (in separate directory not on the previous working version). When later on, by curiosity ,i re-did the checks the testsuite passed the test. I don't know the precise reason : some library not in the path or something .Someone more in the knowledge of Java could surely explain why.
But that's not the point :when someone put tests on a pgm and the tests don't work that doesn't reassure me. Especially a version 1 or 2 years old.
If i could have found a post explaining that things clear up after the installation i wouldn't have lost a couple of hours wandering in the newsgroups archives for an answer. Isn't it the purpose of the forum ? If i'm mistaken, so be it, take me off..
