Booha! Finally get it all up, running, and Working!

Starting with an old, spare, K6-2 500mHz, a cruddy video card, and a motherboard, I decided I was going to learn linux (specifically, Slackware). After numerous hardware failures (everything from bad harddrives to faulty ram, bad CD-ROM drives, to cases that shorted hardware), I had given up for three months. With the release of Slackware 9.0, I bucked up and forced myself to work through the hardware problems and storm my way through the tough software times (as Slackware is notorious for).

So, one (very persistant) week later, here I sit, with a fully-configured and working Slackware desktop box, fully capable to browse the internet and handle my desktop needs. Of course not everything is set, and there are always more things to configure, but ...

I've done it, baby, I've done it! Next goal is to buy a spare harddrive for my laptop (currently WinXP) and try to set up Slackware all anew for this lil' machine. After I get the stupid thing serviced (crummy PSU fan has me worried), I fully expect to be writing and posting from my "Slacktop"

Thanks much ;) I'm looking forward to seeing just how far this thing goes. I really look forward to the day when I can have a purely linux setup. For a guy who's been a Windows network tech for about five years, taking the plunge is a big step!
