A little success, and a lesson (ATI, Radeon fb)

I have a suggestion. And this is very fglrx and ATI related, but there is a good lesson to it...

I was trying to make gentoo work with ATI. To skip a couple of steps, I arrive at fglrxconfig and it asks me for hsync and vertrefresh. I don't know what to answer, so I ask LQ. I try settings that are close to my 1440*900 resolution, hard to get because it's a special resolution. But I always failed. Then I get tired, and answer everything default settings.... and it worked, at the right resolution...

The lesson? Sometimes, using the default works better then overriding. It was the same thing with radeon and VESA framebuffer. I disabled VESA, and compiled RADEON framebuffer, no kernel parameter, and it worked. All the other time, with parameters, it would crash...

wow. :D

The penguin rulez :Pengy:

Nice :) It's always good to see some ATI successes among the failures!

Oh, and this is a Success Story and has been moved to that forum.
