I tend to find the fact that religious and/or political signatures are allowed does help to show that this is a community of people from differing backgrounds here to help other use, enjoy and talk about Linux as well as just chat. I understand the "No religion, no politics" thing but I think that's a decision to be made about discussion threads not how a person represents themselves in their signature.

I'll admit to forgetting friendliness on occasion but it's the friendly attitude of the site which makes it fun as well as useful, definitely.

Hi hazel...

Thank you! Yes, I've had exchanges regarding this in other forums, some have had no issues, others have.

Regards...

That's correct, I learned this first hand a few years ago.

I'm another "from Linux Forums" person that's planning to focus on this site going forward. I've had an account here for quite awhile, but the volume of new posts made it harder to keep up to date here now once I got a great (and time consuming) job.

My reason for posting, other than to say hello, is to agree with hazel about the likely fate of the other forum. But I don't think the people running it don't care, that feels a bit too harsh. I just don't think they have the time and/or expertise to recover from the mess they've found themselves in. It's sad really, since the community they built and supported was quite nice. And in the end, they are being victimized by someone else.

In the end she's right, but I'd rather say goodbye thanking them for what they did then assuming they abandoned the site without any concrete proof.

Hello Hazel. I came to LinuxQuestions about 13 years ago when the Linux forum I had been on went bonkers on everyone. Things change but I think LQ is good as long as Jeremy is around.

hazel,

Welcome to LQ.

I am sure that your presence here will be extremely beneficial.

I, for one, was not taken in by your tag, "I'm just a little old lady. Don't try to dazzle me with jargon".

I knew you had to have a lot of experience judging by the quality of the answers you have given to various posters.

I was also on Linux Forums but only for a short while in 2006, then I moved to LQ.

I have bookmarked your "Rants and ramblings of a little old lady" for study at a later time.

I have to go out now.

Best wishes.

Hey hazel,

You should like it here. I'm sure we will see others as they discover this site. I've been a member here for a while but my participation has been not as great as it was on Linux Forums. Guess now I'll start growing that here.

Welcome to LQ, hazel!

I was wondering if you and others would eventually migrate. I've been a member here for a long while now, but don't show up regularly here, or anywhere else these days. Anyway, I'm glad you've decided to join this site!

So that's where you went! One of the nice things I've found here is a lot of familiar names, including some who haven't posted in the other place for a long time.

Hazel, if you're this Hazel:

Then it's an honour to meet you. A hearty welcome.

If you're not that Hazel, then a hearty welcome any way :-)
