I'm using Kanotix 2005-4 RC 12 with 2.6.13-kanotix-17 Qt: 3.3.5 KDE: 3.4.3 kde-config: 1.0

Cool :). Welcome to LQ.org. I think you are the second latino joining today. I love the latin culture. Latin folks are always so friendly too ;).

wow, Thanks for the warn welcome, Mega Man X and XavierP . I didn't expect a reply, not even a reply in the same day.

Thanks for the links, I'll check them up. BTW, Kanotix is debian based so installing isn't a issue here. However, compiling (config, make, make install) is still something I can't nail, yet.

I don't know if I should do a search in these forum first or just shoot and ask (actually, buggy you with n00b questions), but what is itching me right now is how to put kanotix in standby. So far what I gather is that my kernel doesn't support ACPI (or maybe because I'm using a RC for the next release). so a good patching/compile kernel hint will be welcome.

So far, $acpitool -S +0:01 did put my computer in standby (monitor and CPU fan went off and the power led blinked as in standby in windows does) but I couldn't wake it up.
