Years of Casual Linux Experience has Led to Very Little Knowledge

Hello LinuxQuestions.org! For years I've been perusing these forums for answers to questions about video drivers, software RAID and all of the other finer mysteries of Linux.

I started working with Linux around 1999 with RedHat Linux. I had a Compaq server case (quad Pentium Pros!) that I got from work and outfitted on eBay which would not run anything higher than RedHat 6--higher versions couldn't detect my memory for some reason, so I let it stick.

Since then I played around a lot with Fedora Core and MythTv, up until I got rid of cable. But recently Linux has seen a resurgence in my house with the resurrection of my MythTv machine (now with Ubuntu), and an Ubuntu fileserver with 4x 500 GB drives RAIDed together with mdadm.

There's always trouble with these systems of one kind or another, but so far nothing crippling. Video and sound has come a long way, as evidenced by my Mythbox working so well over HDMI. Yeah, there are some weird horizontal artifacts; yeah, Firefox and MythMusic insist on using a different sound output; but for the most part it works great, and I'll get around to fixing those other nagging problems.

So hello, LinuxQuestions, and thanks for the years of answers I've already gotten.
