Hey everyone!
I am pretty new to Linux, and I'm loving it, but I need some help! I still need to hold on to windoze for a little bit longer while I make the full conversion. There are still a few apps I need to run in windoze. I want to install vmware, however I am having a problem. The installation on RH8 was fine, once I upgraded to RH9 and tried to reinstall vmware I got the following error after executng vmware-config.pl : What is the location of the directory of C header files that match your running kernel? [/usr/src/linux-2.4.20-6/include] Extracting the sources of the vmmon module. Building the vmmon module. make: Entering directory `/tmp/vmware-config4/vmmon-only' make[1]: Entering directory `/tmp/vmware-config4/vmmon-only' make[2]: Entering directory `/tmp/vmware-config4/vmmon-only/driver-2.4.20-6' In file included from ../linux/driver.c:38: /usr/src/linux-2.4.20-6/include/linux/malloc.h:4:2: #error linux/malloc.h is deprecated, use linux/slab.h instead. make[2]: *** [driver.d] Error 1 make[2]: Leaving directory `/tmp/vmware-config4/vmmon-only/driver-2.4.20-6' make[1]: *** [deps] Error 2 make[1]: Leaving directory `/tmp/vmware-config4/vmmon-only' make: *** [auto-build] Error 2 make: Leaving directory `/tmp/vmware-config4/vmmon-only' Unable to build the vmmon module. For more information on how to troubleshoot module-related problems, please have a look at "http://www.vmware.com/download/modules/modules.html". Execution aborted The installation just bags out on me everytime. I tried to build the modules from the source but no matter what I do, or what folder I select, it doesn't work. I am continuously given the error: The path "/usr/src/linux-2.4.20-6/include/<insert folder here> is an existing directory, but it does not contain at least one of these directories "" as expected. All the folders I chose have either "linux", "asm", "net" in them. I am totally lost! Please help Thanks Kevin - PRO6575 |
Go in your directory /usr/src/${linux version}/
and run : make dep After that, try to install vmware...it'll work! Good luck! |
