Today must be noob's day

Well hi there from down under (New Zealand that is)

I am just in the process of my first ever venture into Linux, and am having a crack at setting up a dual xeon server with white box, so figured I had better hook in somewhere, as I am sure I am going to need heaps of help/guidance, etc

I am entirely windows born & bred, and run a main PC which is pretty good, but hope ultimately to be able to know enough about the server to set it up in a workgroup environment, looking after mail & file service and maybe even ftp & vpn (if I can work out how to do any of that LOL)

Anyways... nice to be here and thanks to the team who setup/keep this place going.

welcome to the other side!!!!!

just take it one step at a time and you will be up and running in no time,

check out this forum as you go and you will find a lot of people seriously trying to help you out with any kind of question, just like they did for me since i started a year ago.

i recomend too try out some distro's and read their reviews to see which brand of linux suits your style if you haven't already done so http://distrowatch.com/

Thanks for the encouragment.

Is there a dedicated area for 'White Box'? I had a quick look around and couldn't find anything specific.

don't think there is a section for white box specifically,
but since its red hat based i suppose you can most distro specific matters there, but since all distro's use basically the same software you will also be find a lot in the enterprise section and the networking etc...
