The 'Gatestrix' no longer has me.....

That's right, I took the penguin (red) pill, and, like neo, suffered through 3 weeks of trying to get Mandrake 9.1 to install on my K6 233 with a 6G Hd (see my posts in hardware). Then in the dead of night i hijacked my kids' PII 350, put in a second 20G drive and inside of 45 minutes i was dual booting win98/Mdke 9.1, painlessly.

Bam! into Gnome. Immediately impressed with the interface (not inyorface and desktop switching is like adding another dimension). Ok, now can I see my windoze drive...?? sure enough, open Konqueror and with a bit of browsing thru posts here i've got it mounted and have copied almost everything to my Linux FS. Cooooool.

What about the kids u ask??? Well, they can still play their mpegs and mp3's and hopefully their generation won't sucumb to what the rest of the world sees as acceptable (money grubbing software monopolists that spend more time and money trying to fix crap than do it right in the first place, aka the 'Gatestrix').

They've taken the 'red pill' also. (ya, i gave them the choice...they loved the penguin)

The K6 233 has been retasked as a coyote router and the hard drive.......well, it was cannon fodder for my 50 cal muzzleloader last weekend......(blowed up real good).

My notebook is the last holdout right now, just cause i need to connect to the win 2k network at work, but as my journey continues, i'm sure it wont be for long....

keep up the good work, spread the word its our job to show these people the truth..........

Wow. You got your kids on Linux! Linux is getting older than its users.

ya, they r 4 & 6yrs old. I created a link to their favorite mp3 directory and it was like i had only changed the desktop theme to them, my 6 yr old simply jumped on the machine and she started listening to her music and watching her videos.....

i'm still working on getting it to run a little quicker, fullscreen video in xine is very sluggish, a check of ps shows the system is using 250MB of my 320MB....so as soon as i figure out how to dump some of the unneeded stuff running in the background it will be perfect......

Thumbs up

Welcome aboard..

Are we talking about a smb-pdc here? I say that because I use my HP laptop (running RH 9) at work logged into our Novell network and our smb-pdc all the time. Linux kicks ass at networking (IMHO) and with a little tweaking can talk to just about anything. Jeremy set us up with a cool new "laptop" forum that is great for making the switch.. Just a thought..

Again welcome to LQ..

Just call me /dev/

"The Gatestrix"

Hi, I'm a filmmaker who just did a parody of The Matrix called "The Gates-trix," which is on Ifilm right now. I did a search for my movie title and came across your post!

In the parody, Bill Gates takes over the world with Windows Infinity. If you get a chance, check it out. It sounds like we have a group of fellow Gates-haters here!

To see the film, go to www.ifilm.com and do a search for "The Gates-trix." If you see it and like it, please tell your friends!

Thanks, and sorry to crash the forum for shameless self-promotion, but I thought it was quite a coincidence!
