STOP! If you are a novice, like me, think again about Linux, Ubuntu. This site desperately needs the input from people like us, me, to relate to us. If some of these "computer chat" commands seems like a foreign language, then Linux, Ubuntu is NOT what you want! If you want a learning experience about computers, then you've come to the right place.
SUPPORT? is near non-existent! You will get hold of some good people who want to help others, are experienced/intelligent enough about what we call "computer chat" to give a helping hand, hopefully, when you need it. Please remember, these 'good people' still have a life, sleep, work and have patience as well. You are nobody to them, and you may be thought-of as not being smart enough to even own a computer, even if your Intelligence Quotient, IQ, is much higher than the one you are communicating with, he/she will just 'move-on' to someone they may be able to help. If you are like me, you will NOT get hold of an employee to give you support and walk-you-through your problems as if over the phone (inspiring loyalty).
Other Operating Systems, OS, charge money and still give terrible support, you are a "dollar-sign" to them, they have your money and that is all they want. Linux, Ubuntu, OS is free and sounds great, so remember, if you get the newest that has come out (you think you want the best) is like getting something where all the bugs have not been worked out. Report your bugs if you can, want a phone number to talk to a person with a pulse? Good luck with that! I would NOT include such a thought in expectations.
Canonical, to my knowledge, only provides phone support with their paid plan called Ubuntu Advantage and this is normally for corporate or business users. I think all others are expected to use the forum or "Ask Ubuntu."
Because most Linux distributions are offered free of charge, no one is going to pay money out of their own pocket to provide techinical support over the phone.
