still wet behind the ears...

Hello all.

First off, this is the first forum I have ever been a member of, so please excuse the poor etiquette if any does indeed exist.

I have a relatively fresh install of Ubuntu 10.10 (very pretty) and a relatively fresh virtually useless (now non-existent) installation of Vista. It sucks that it is gone, but at the same time, I never really enjoyed it as an operating system. My laptop has been set up for dual-boot since it's introduction to me... and Linux is the ONLY reason I was able to save anything off of my Vista installation (in case you were wondering, one VERY nasty virus ate it).

I am part-time IT, and I also am fairly familiar with c++ language. I do dearly miss writing code... I have KDevelop4, but being a linux newbie, I just can't seem to get things right.

As mentioned, I am Windows IT (yes, I'll admit it), and Linux, though obviously superior, is entirely foreign to me.

I am looking forward to getting my feet wet with the penguin.

Thanks for reading this far-
Jon

Welcome to LQ. Your "netiquette" is fine.

Here are a couple links that are generally recommended reading for Linux newbies:

How To Ask Questions The Smart Way (for asking/answering questions here on LQ and elsewhere )
Rute User's Tutorial and Exposition (covers a lot of the basics, and then some)
