"Sort of" newbie hello!!

I write "sort of" because I have been "playing" around with Linux since way back. I am only now beginning to use it for "real".

I am starting a business and am weighing the pros and cons of Linux vs other OS's and so far Linux is winning. Not because it is free, but because I can get what I need, not what someone else makes me get. Plus I like the advantage of being able to add and take away things if I don't like or need them.

I am setting up a recording studio so if anybody has any ideas of good distros for audio, I am all ears...

Hello and welcome to LQ!

I remember a long time ago I started recording within linux, and it wasn't all that bad. Instead of trying to list all of the software, check this link out - http://briansbedroom.org/
Later on, if you want to, shoot me an email and I can let you know what software I currently use, as I'm not on my computer right now.

Cheers and welcome to LQ again!

Josh

Way cool!! Thanks for the input!!

One thing I am wondering about is what is the difference between OSS drivers and ALSA drivers. I found an OSS driver for my M-audio soundcard, but would like (I think to use ALSA) Setting up a sound environment in Linux is new for me...

Thanks again!!

HC
