Security thru port blocking

A newbie on things LINUX. My search for turning ports on/off for security reasons brought me to this site.

Currently using APACHE HTTP server FOR LINUX (Red Hat ver 9.0)

I will now start my search thru your forum for answers to my as yet un-structured questions. As I gain confidence, questions will become more to the point.

For now, any and all suggestions are welcome.
