Got my first own, to myself, no one in the house except me, computer! (thanks steve watson). Pentium 2 266Mhz 4Gb Harddrive and floppy disk. FIrst TIme I've ever even touched Linux! Im Excited
Booted up RedHat 9 disks, cds were corrupted or something like that. Got RedHat 5.2 and dos now. YEA WOLFENDSTIEN 3D! Dove right in trying to install open office. ok, took me long enough (4 days) trying to unzip and compile the source. can't cause glibc is too old. so i configure, compile, and install, that oooohh. but i can't complete that either need the newest gmake or gnu make. yeah got that done but can't get rid of the old gmake........
Well thats where im at! First time newbee!! First week! Im ready to rock and roll!

p.s.
i put in this really neat pop out cup holder, but i can't seem to find the cdrom drive anywhere!!!

Welcome to LQ.

I would recommend trying Red Hat 7.2 on that set up. If you or a friend have high speed internet burn a copy from http://www.linuxiso.org

thanks man!
yeah, actually, i do have a friend, but he keeps forgetting to bring it. but still im making head way, got gmake updated and now im having trouble with gcc updated. its all good.
this is fun!!
