Real Newbee

Hello:
I am a real newbee to everything. For years I had a (gasp!) Web tv. I purchased my first computer Dec 2005 for my fifteen year old. That is her computer. A friend from work gave me a HP 6930. I upped the HD (hp installed a 2G) with an 80G. HP had 32meg ram, I upped to 256. I just read web sites and did all this w/o any real knowledge. I installed MEPIS linux and so far it has worked well. Since about the only thing I know about computers is how to open Micro$oft Word, the whole linux experience has been great. No system crash (yet!) and no freeze up nor have I seen the "Blue Screen of Death" that all the computers at work seem to get all the time.
