If you can present your technical problem with the computer, and terminal coding, as required, that may be enough for somebody to figure out your problem.

I am new to Linux. I am currently using Windows 10 on my laptop but I have a 40Gb partition ready for Debian. I know, I know... most of you will tell me to go for a less complicated distro but I am willing to do the hard work and anyway I don't need to do much.

Provided you are willing to do the hard work, and in particular some learning, I don't think there's anything wrong with starting with Debian. While the first distro I ever used from memory was Ubuntu, it wasn't long (from memory) before I switched to a mid-range distro myself (in my case openSUSE rather than Debian).

In any case, do you mean "groups" as in: "user groups" ? If so, don't use the "wheel" group if you care about security. I'd suggest either create a user group with the same name as your normal user account, or stick your normal user in the "users" group if it exists.
