petaFLOPS HPC Linux Clustering
Hi guys :Pengy:
Here's a new LQ member (and Linux fan) from Bulgaria. Not a guru of course :study: but constantly learning... As a physicist I am interested in High Performance Computing (parallel calculations using Linux clusters) because my areas of interest in Physics require much computational power - Numerical Relativity as example... CactusCode should do well enough. Adaptive mesh refinement, things like that... Have you heard that the present combined "Folding-at-home" power of the involved PlayStation3 volunteers have reached 1 petaFLOPS?!! Yes, the new Sony/IBM/Toshiba 1+8-core processor (Cell BE) is really a huge step forward. I can hardly wait for the Cell BE architecture to enter the consumer PC market! And the major Linux distros to be compiled for Cell BE of course ;) Until then... well, I plan to try a Celeron 420 based PC (overclocked of course :D) with 1 or 2 Gigs of RAM (due to budget restrictions :twocents: ). Is anybody reading this at all?? ;) :D |
Welcome to LQ. :-)
